Relationships between ocular dimensions and the effects of provocative tests Water drinking

چکیده
Weekers, Lavergne, and Prijot (1958), Davenport (I959), and Perkins and Jay (I960) have all commented on a high incidence of myopia in open-angle glaucoma. Abdalla and Hamdi (1970) showed that myopic eyes have higher ocular tensions than emmetropic eyes in most age groups. The findings of Tomlinson and Phillips (1970) agreed with this, but showed that ocular tension correlated more closely with the axial length of the eye (i.e. high axial length was associated with higher ocular tension than low axial length) than with the refraction. Tomlinson and Phillips (I969) have reported a correlation between high cup-to-disc area ratio and high axial length of the eye. Armaly (I969) has suggested that the cup/ disc ratio may be a factor determining the susceptibility of eyes with high intraocular pressure to visual field defects. A tendency to high ocular tension and large cup/disc ratio in eyes of long axial length miay partly explain the high prevalence of open-angle glaucoma in myopic eyes. A very clear association between shallowness of the anterior chamber and closed-angle glaucoma is known (Rosengren, 193I; Tornquist, I956; Lowe, I969). In open-angle glaucoma also, a shallower than normal anterior chamber has been observed (Rosengren, 193I; Tornquist and Broden, I958; Tomlinson and Leighton, in preparation, i.e. unpublished data).

متن کامل[2% ibopamine vs. water-drinking test as a provocative test for glaucoma].
PURPOSE To compare the 2% ibopamine provocative test with the water drinking test as a provocative test for glaucoma. METHODS Primary open-angle glaucoma patients and normal individuals were selected from CEROF-Universidade Federal de Goiânia UFG, and underwent the 2% ibopamine provocative test and the water drinking test in a randomized fashion, at least 1 week apart. Intraocular pressure (I...
متن کاملOcular Motor Function in Patients with Bilateral Vestibular Weakness
Introduction: Patients with bilateral weakness (BW) have many difficulties in gaze stability that interfere with their normal function. The aim of this study was to evaluate ocular motor functions in patients with BW to better understand the problem of gaze instability in these patients. Materials and Methods: Patients were referred from the Otolaryngology Department for Vestibular Assessmen...
متن کاملA New Provocative Test for Glaucoma
PURPOSE To compare the effects of the water-drinking test (WDT) with the 30° inverted body position test on intraocular pressure (IOP) in normal patients, suspected glaucoma patients and glaucoma patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Based on clinical evaluation of the optic disk, IOP, and standard achromatic perimetry (SAP) of 71 eyes, 18 were "normal" (normal SAP and optic disk evaluation, and IO...

Abstract Background and Objective: Safe drinking water is essential for health and health promotion is dependent on providing safe water. We aimed to determine the relationship between turbidity & residual chlorine and microbial quality of drinking water in Agh ghala. Material and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 2079 water samples were collected from water networks of 78 ...
